On April 24, President Biden nominated April Perry as a United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois.

The president had previously nominated Perry to serve as Chicago’s first female U.S. Attorney in 2023, but Ohio senator J.D. Vance’s “procedural hold” on all appointments for U.S. attorneys stalled that nomination.

“Congratulations to April Perry on being nominated to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She has made impactful contributions as Senior Counsel of Global Investigations and Fraud and Abuse Prevention at GE HealthCare, General Counsel at Ubiety Technologies, and Chief Deputy State’s Attorney and Chief Ethics Officer for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.” said Dean Hari Osofsky. “She is extremely well qualified and we look forward to her important work to advance justice as a judge.”

In response to her new appointment, U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) said in a statement, “We are pleased that President Biden is nominating April Perry to be a Federal District Court Judge in the Northern District of Illinois. She brings strong qualifications and a wealth of experience from her time in both the private sector and as a federal prosecutor in the Northern District of Illinois for over a decade. We look forward to supporting her nomination for this lifetime appointment in the Senate.”

Perry has been Senior Counsel of Global Investigations and Fraud and Abuse Prevention at GE HealthCare since 2022. She served as General Counsel at Ubiety Technologies from 2019 to 2022. From 2017 to 2019, Perry served as the Chief Deputy State’s Attorney and Chief Ethics Officer for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

In addition, Perry worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois from 2004 to 2016, served as a law clerk for Judge Joel M. Flaum on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit from 2003 to 2004, and currently serves as a hearing officer for the Chicago Police Board.

Before graduating from law school Perry received her B.S. magna cum laude from Northwestern University in 2000, where she gained early court experience serving on the school’s mock trial team.
