Complex Litigation Center Continues Its Work

Social Justice Bluhm Legal Clinic

The Center worked on several high-profile cases this year, including the Block One Crypto Currency Fraud case, helped get the Investor Justice Act introduced in the U.S. Senate, and much more.

Block One Crypto Currency Fraud

The Complex Litigation Center was apart of the lead counsel team in the Block One Crypto Currency Fraud case in the US District court in NY. The case has been settled, subject to court approval, for approximately $30 Million.

Wrongful Death Case

The Center successfully defeated a qualified immunity summary judgment in the US District Court for Southern Alabama in a wrongful death case in which our client’s son, who was unarmed, was shot and killed by a county deputy sheriff after he was in a one car accident. The case is on appeal to the 11th Circuit and was orally argued on November 18.

Collaborate With Center for Racial and Disability Justice

The Center will collaborate with the newly-formed Northwestern Center for Racial and Disability Justice. We have been working with exonerees to obtain employment for them after they achieve their freedom. Our Director, Sam Tenenbaum, was a featured speaker at York University (Toronto) Osgoode Hall Law School’s celebration of the fifth anniversary of their Investor Protection Center (the first in Canada) which he helped establish. Our Center helped get the Investor Justice Act introduced in the U.S. Senate. We have settled a number of investor protection claims and in connection with our work on the Diamond reverse mortgage fraud case we were able to obtain the release of one of the mortgages by a lender.

Helping Homeowners

Finally, as a result of a grant from the Federal Bar Association, our website related to rights and responsibilities of homeowners in Cook County, which is primarily addressed to the minority community, continues successfully.
